Type of Finish
Polyester powder coating protects the aluminium frame from tarnishing with exposure to the elements and is available in a wide range of attractive colours. It is a durable long lasting finish, a bit like enamelling.
Add: €330
Aluminium which has not been protected against weathering is called ‘mill finish’, this suits people who just want a working Greenhouse without regard to how it looks.
We have a range of standard colours to choose from but you can also nominate a special colour (using the RAL numbering system) if for example you want to match with the finish of your house nearby.

Custom Color
Coloured Rubber Glazing Strip
Rubber Glazing Strip (this is to be in the same drawer as powder coating)
Rubber glazing strip secures each glass pane to the Greenhouse frame and is available in one of three colours. Black, White or Green. Black is supplied by default. We recommend selecting white rubber strip if you have a white or cream Greenhouse.
Glass Pane Size
Janssens offer a choice of 37cm or 73cm wide panes of glass. It is primarily a question of what you like the look of. Some people think narrower panes look nicer, some rather wide panes, it is a matter of personal preference. A Greenhouse with narrow panes does cost more as it has more aluminium and will take a lot longer to build as there are nearly twice as many panes and glazing bars. The narrow pane model is marginally stronger.
We also have available on request K Glass (more thermally efficient) and 10mm twin wall polycarbonate, please ask for the price if these are of interest.
Choices: 73cm (default)
or 37cm
Decorative Aluminium Panels
Ornate aluminium decorative panels, available in a choice of three designs which give a stunning look or a blank panel may be selected. This option will create an unusual feature in your garden and may be the ideal choice where you want to use the structure for an alternative function instead of a Greenhouse, for example as an artist's studio, wedding reception venue etc.
There are three designs of panel to choose from:
Panel A
Panel B
Panel C
Louvre Vents
Janssens' louvre vents are a generous size (opening dimensions 69cm x 93cm) giving excellent ventilation. With a black polyester powder coated frame, being a neutral colour it blends in with most Greenhouse frame colours. We have allowed for what is considered adequate ventilation by our experience in the basic Greenhouse price but you can never have too much ventilation on a warm summer day.
Automatic Louvre Openers
Thermoforce Automatic louvre openers are quite easy to fit. The opening temperature range is between 15 and 25 degrees C. A release catch enables manual opening of the louvre vent when desired.
Storm Bracing
For exposed locations, decorative 'spandrels' reinforce the strength of the structure greatly, increasing the ability of the Greenhouse to resist buckling in the wind. These attractive spandrels will be in the same colour as your frame and are fitted to every second glazing bar.
If you are concerned with the exposed nature of your site, in addition to storm bracing we would recommend you also fit a shelf and seedbed to the rear gable.
For really exposed situations e.g. coastal areas we would recommend a number of additional measures: Using silicone to adhere the glazing to the frame, using lock nuts in strategic places, having extra rubber glazing strip fitted and having L profile bars fitted along the roof connecting all the roof glazing bars. Pricing on these additional options available on request.
Dwarf Wall Model
A Dwarf Wall Model makes for a very attractive features and has practical advantages too. It means one can build raised beds inside the walls, the temperature in the summer is a little cooler and winter temperatures a little warmer. The wall is normally built and organised by the customer and is not included in the price of the Greenhouse. General instructions are available to download on this website but after an order has been placed we will be pleased without additional cost to give a drawing specific to your order for you to give to your builder.
There are three standard heights of wall that the Greenhouse can be manufactured for:
263mm wall
463mm wall
663mm wall
Hinged or Sliding Doors
Sliding doors have been included as standard but here you have a choice to change to hinged. Doors can be fitted to the gable or side of the Greenhouse.
Hinged doors give a Greenhouse a more traditional look than sliding doors. Janssens’ Hinged Doors are fitted with hydraulic door closers to pull them closed automatically and they are fitted with a lock.
With a Dwarf Wall Greenhouse, if you have a sliding door it slides quite close to the outside face of the wall and the track that the door slides in is very narrow and must be kept perfectly straight. This means that if you have a builder who will build a nice straight plum wall with a flat face there is no problem, but if you are for example using stone it will be better to go for a hinged door to avoid problems.

Decorative finials and ridge crestings
Ornate ridge crestings and finials provide a bit of extra Victorian style bling to your Greenhouse. It is a question of personal preference and you can select your choice here.

Low door threshold
The standard door entrance has a threshold bar going across at ground level which is 118mm high (to be stepped over). For most customers this is not an issue but where a lower threshold is desired – for example for wheelchair access we offer a service to modify the door entrance to be only 40mm. The Customer can place concrete slabs on either side of this lowered door threshold to be flush with the top of it meaning effectively there will be no lip to step over.
Lowered Sliding
Door Entrance
Lowered Hinged Door Entrance
The standard hinged door entrance has a door threshold (step) of 118mm high. For most customers this is not an issue but if you would prefer to having this lower we provide an option of modifying the door entrance and lengthening the doors to suit. The doors open outwards and when we lower the door threshold and lengthen the doors they will have less clearance between the bottom of the door and the ground – so it will only suit where the ground outside slopes away from the Greenhouse or does not have stones that will catch under the door.
An alternative is to build your Dwarf walls a little lower and sink your threshold bar into the ground which will have the result of bringing your doors closer to the ground and lowering the threshold.

Accessories
Automatic Vent Openers
Simple devices which open and close roof vents automatically for you according to temperature. They contain an industrial wax-like substance inside a cylinder which expands and contracts with according to the temperature and pushes or pulls a rod that opens or closes the automatically. The temperature at which they open and close can be adjusted by hand but you cannot manually open the vent. The cylinder containing the wax-like substance is a consumable item but typically lasts a number of years and can be easily replaced. Generally in windy weather automatic openers are cooled down by the wind and so close the vents.
Thermoforce HD3400 Automatic Vent Openers
This robust opener has a strong closing force. It has a maximum opening of 35cm (14") and comes powder coated in a black finish. Its opening range is between 15C and 25C.
Bayliss Hydraulic Check Autovents (for more exposed locations)
The Hydraulic Check Autovent has a small hydraulic damper which only allows the vent to be opened slowly but it can shut quickly, thus protecting the roof vent. The hydraulic check Autovent is advisable in areas where severe conditions are encountered. It can be set to start opening at temperatures between 16C and 23C. Supplied with a satin anodised finish.
Seedbeds
Don’t be fooled by the name, a seedbed can fulfil many purposes. First and foremost it provides a comfortable surface on which to pot up and tend to plants. You can use it to display plants on and it gains you additional space in the Greenhouse. A seedbed can be fitted with capillary matting to assist even water distribution among your pot plants or you can fit an electric thermostatically controlled heated mat in it to make a propagator.
Multiple units can be fitted. They can be fitted along the full length of the side and/or across the full width of the gable ends. Each seedbed frame is made from aluminium in the same colour as your Greenhouse and the tongued and grooved plastic panels which make up the bottom are white. The seedbed is 500mm wide.
Shelves
The Janssens shelf is an aluminium section 115mm wide. It is useful for small pot plants and odds and ends like gloves, secateurs and other small odds and ends. A shelf also adds to the already powerful strength of the Greenhouse. It is supplied in the same colour as your Greenhouse.
Self-build or constructed by Greenhouse Ireland Craftsmen
Greenhouses may look quick and to build but there is a considerable amount of time and a lot of parts involved, however if you enjoy DIY this is often very enjoyable. With our professional and courteous construction service you will know that the job has been done right first time.
We quote for construction on an individual basis, to obtain a quotation for this Greenhouse that you are pricing please click on the button below.
If you are buying a ‘glass to ground’ greenhouse (i.e. not a dwarf wall model) and have a long established flat and level lawn, a concrete foundation is not needed and we can build directly onto it – but otherwise our construction service price is based on any foundations, ground works and walls being prepared by the customer in advance of our arrival on site.
Details on foundations are available on the instructions tab on this website page, and we will be pleased to discuss any queries you have and if necessary provide further drawings specific to your Greenhouse once an order has been placed.
Our construction service is subject to some terms and conditions (link to the details here):
Delivery
If ordering our construction service we bring the Greenhouse kit with us so this section is not relevant. If you are buying your Greenhouse to self‐build delivery is by truck (lorry) normally. If you have restricted or unsafe access for a truck you will need to order the van delivery service.
Delivery by Truck
When a Greenhouse is bought in kit form (for DIY assembly) at the price shown, it is shipped from the factory and delivery is made with a large lorry fitted with a tail lift. The driver will use a hand operated ‘pallet truck’ to take a tall pallet of glass off the lorry and he will carry the boxes containing the frames off and put them down beside or near to the lorry. The driver’s pallet truck can go onto concrete, tarmac or paving – but it won’t move on gravel or grass (or up steep slopes). The delivery service is basically to the roadside or wherever the driver can access with his pallet truck. It is essential that there be safe parking for the lorry at your entrance if he is unable to park off the road at your property. If this is not possible please choose delivery by van or our construction service (or nominate a location for delivery where a truck can access from where you can arrange for others to move it to your site).
Delivery by van
If delivery in a lorry is not possible we offer a service where we take delivery of your Greenhouse, and deliver it to you on a scheduled delivery run to your area. There is a charge to cover the extra handling and transport costs to provide this service and the lead time will be extended (we can confirm at time of order). We will offload your goods with care to beside our van, the panes of glass can either be stood up against a wall in your garage (they cannot be left lying flat) or we can bring a pallet and stack the panes into it. If ordering this service please advise which you prefer.
Lead Times
The lead time is the estimated length of time from when your order is placed to when delivery is made. This is a guideline only as lead times may vary according to demand and logistical considerations.
DIY Kit Lead Times
The basic lead time for the Arcadia in Mill finish, Green (RAL 6009) or Black (RAL 9005) is 6 weeks.
For other colours add 3 weeks or a Model 37 or a Dwarf Wall Model add 3 weeks.
If a low door threshold or our construction service is ordered add two weeks.

Modifications
We can modify your Greenhouse to have one end up against a wall.
10mm twin wall polycarbonate Glazing
Ideal solution if you live in fear of stray stones or sliothars flying – polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable. It is an excellent insulator. You do lose some of the aesthetic appeal of the Greenhouse as it is not clear as glass, images are diffused so you cannot see straight through it. 10mm twin wall polycarbonate is more expensive than the toughened glass which is supplied as standard with our Greenhouses. Brochure available for download:
K Glass
K Glass is horticultural glass with a coating which greatly lowers its K value (heat loss value). With K glass you can have the benefits of insulation without the downside of not being able to see through it clearly. K Glass is the same price as 10mm twin wall polycarbonate but is not toughened so not as strong or as safe as toughened glass (which shatters into tiny pieces rather than big shards) when it breaks. We will be pleased to quote for it on request.

Top hinged side windows
Our louvre windows provide the most cost effective solution for side windows but if you prefer the look and feel of a solid hinged window this option is available.
